ā€œHow can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?ā€ a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

She recounted the moments before the shooting, stating they were standing when the shooting erupted. ā€œHe pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,ā€ she stated.

A child who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was also killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli government.

From the 42 people transported to hospital, many are still under care, with several in serious condition. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he recounted the scene as an ā€œutter carnage,ā€ but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a ā€œstroke of luckā€ he survived.

Evan Zlatkis
