The President Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were ā€œdevastatedā€.

Background on the Devastating Shooting

Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

ā€œI said: ā€˜When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,ā€ Trump addressed the press. ā€œAnd likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.ā€

Community Reaction

Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in DC.

Honoring Beckstrom

ā€œShe was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,ā€ Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the media. ā€œShe was caring, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.ā€

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Actions and Policy Changes

Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The tragedy caused the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease providing visas to owners of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is ā€œfighting for his lifeā€, the state’s leader the governor said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the military.

ā€œShe had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,ā€ he addressed the crowd at the vigil. ā€œThough her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.ā€
