Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiās iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
āThis pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,ā stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
āIf we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,ā Levine Cava continued. āMay this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.ā
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the regionās Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling ā6-7ā ā inspired by a musical verse ā often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named ā6-7ā its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary āfar from charcoal and roasting pansā, according to the ceremony's official statement.
āThis swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,ā said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
āIt embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.ā
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Sevenās big moment.
