One of the original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with his partner, disclosed how he will personally create this new flavor within a personal series highlighting issues the company has been barred from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company from "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Flavor as a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed via an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for naming options and potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which match those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand that was first established in 2016 for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will create additional ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which the company was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company in September, following decades with the organization, citing concerns that its independence had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented that “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise the social mission, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told media outlets.
