The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Silent Hill and Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl harboring several personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct personas, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
