The beverage company Recommences Brewing Output Following a Cyber Incident

The brewer has begun to resume manufacturing at each of its six production facilities in Japan after it was compelled to shut down them due to a online intrusion.

Several major stores in Japan, including convenience store chains, had notified recently that they were running low on inventories of the beer following the cyber incident affected the brewer's ordering and delivery systems in the country.

Asahi is the biggest brewer in Japan, but it also makes non-alcoholic beverages and consumables, in addition to furnishing own-brand goods to various sellers.

The slowly resumed facilities produce top-selling their flagship beer, but the company is also restarting factories that make food and soft drinks.

Broader Consequences of the Digital Breach

The security incident is the latest to have influenced activities at prominent companies, with vehicle producer Jaguar Land Rover continuing to face challenges from an incident that shut down output.

The corporation also owns Fullers in the United Kingdom and worldwide products such as Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and Grolsch. Nonetheless, only its functions in Japan - which constitute about half its sales - have been influenced by the incident.

Current Production Status

Asahi said the resumed beer plants in the country were "yet to reach complete functionality", and that several of the soft drinks factories that have partially re-opened were also not running at maximum output.

It added there were a additional five soft drinks factories that "are set to restart slowly in accordance with distribution."

All seven of its edible product facilities have resumed operations, though they are also not yet operating completely.

Asahi said the production systems at the facilities onsite had remained untouched by the cyber-attack, but it had been obliged to suspend manufacturing because it could not process purchases and distribution.

Resolution Timeline

Last week, the company stated it was "cannot give a clear timeline for restoration" but that it was partnering with external digital protection specialists to restore its infrastructure as quickly as feasible.
