Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.

ā€œI'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,ā€ the coach commented.

ā€œIt's important to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.ā€

He continued, ā€œI accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.ā€

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

ā€œWe communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.ā€

He added, ā€œDuring our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so we'll see.ā€

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

ā€œI haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,ā€ the midfielder stated.

ā€œIt's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.ā€

He added, ā€œIt's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.ā€

ā€œFor many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.ā€

Jones stated, ā€œBut we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.ā€

ā€œWe will attempt to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.ā€

ā€œAt this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.ā€
