Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
