NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage includes text commentary of Sunday's games via various channels, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Also, audio coverage can be heard through designated networks for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar and following last week's discussion about two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, each lost their perfect starts.
Notable during those contests were the number of penalties both committed. The Eagles did so in key moments so they kind of beat themselves having led 17-3 entering the fourth period against the Denver Broncos, who play in London this weekend.
But it proved positive to see that Denver's QB Bo Nix was able to overcome the shortfall before direct three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, to win the game by four points.
The Broncos have the top defender in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They rank first in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, and Denver won that contest.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily sending extra defenders instead they might plug two linebackers in the 'A' gap before withdrawing them and dispatch a slot defender off the edge.
At the start of the season, it was noted during a show that the Broncos could be this season's dark horses. They finished last season strongly then excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this season's underdog story?
New tight end their tight end has excelled big while recent RB JK Dobbins is a player the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide in ground gains (402) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).
I love how head coach Sean Payton has "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
This demonstrates that the Broncos are a squad aiming to run first, since you can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush and keeps you in positive situations.
This has helped QB Bo Nix, who came the NFL as a first-round selection in the prior draft, throwing 29 TDs – second only to a star QB for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).
Other elite QBs have the arm strength to pass all over, but they lack in the same way as Nix. He has incredible passing ability, which is different, and he's highly agile.
His assets include his movement, being able to throw while moving, and using different arm angles to make the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, on rollouts. He can deliver precision throws over the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got a lot of composure in the pocket and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He aims to evade a sack whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He has sharp intelligence and is very decisive.
When you consistently run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to be on the field for longer, and when you've got a mobile QB the defense has to cover the field vertically side to side. This proves exhausting.
Nix has bitten back at Payton during games at times and I think Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as such a competitor. I think it's fun for him to have a rookie QB that is kind of like moldable clay. The coach can really develop him the way he wants to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for the coach.
The head coach has won a Super Bowl and has passed a legend for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing offensively is mostly down to his leadership, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the pairing with Nix helps make him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy in your ear, to help you through difficult moments and boost self-belief.
I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet is the team strong enough to go against a top squad at its best? Because that wasn't championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're performing above average, which is a solid position to hold their division. All they need is to continue this path.
They're really good at embracing their forte, that is the ground game, and that's exactly what they must do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, essentially.
New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (sixth worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the only team without a win a game.
Ever since the league started recording turnovers in 1933, the Jets are the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers through five games, this is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach was previously defensive co-ordinator with another team.
Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City are off to a poor start after Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following this Sunday's game, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule until their break (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans and the Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In their division, the Chiefs are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge for the top of the division.
This hinges upon which form of the Chiefs they meet because the Broncos {beat|def
