Britain Ready to Use Immobilized Russian Assets to Finance the Ukrainian War Effort

The United Kingdom is prepared to move forward with employing the full worth of frozen Russia's holdings to support the Ukrainian military campaign, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the officials of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to come to the table.

They further noted that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

UK penalties have blocked in excess of £25bn of Russia's resources since the Russian government launched its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, up to this point, resources sent to Ukraine using Russian holdings had solely been sourced from profits and interest accrued on them.

Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to push forward toward using the total worth of the immobilized Russian sovereign funds to end the war.

He stated that additional measures over the next period would heighten the tension on Moscow.

This declaration follows European officials gathered in the Danish capital last week to discuss using immobilized Russia's assets for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, President Donald Trump called on G7 allies to seize or utilize immobilized Russia's holdings, based on reports.

The value of immobilized Russian assets in the European Union is estimated to be nearly €211bn.

President Zelensky calls on UK's Sir Keir Starmer to join the weapons procurement program

Russia carried out extensive missile and drone strikes across Ukraine on recently, resulting in electricity outages in significant regions of Ukraine's capital, the city, and several other zones.

Several persons were lost their lives and at least 20 people were injured in the attack, authorities in Ukraine said.

In a message on social media subsequent to the incident, Zelensky wrote that the premeditated assault targeted non-military and power facilities.

"The necessity is not just talk but decisive action - from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing penalties," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to participate in the weapons procurement scheme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the US to provide to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the Britain's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would take part in the initiative, as well as impose additional restrictions on Moscow.
