‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: Meg Ryan Shares Moving Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the deceased director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
